UROC
Rockcrawling! Sounds like something a lizard does on a lazy
August afternoon. Rockcrawling is actually the fastest growing motor sport in
the world. It is four wheel drive vehicles of an extreme nature going over
the most incredible obstacles imaginable. Sixty degree walls and greater, eight
foot crevasses, and tremendous side hills are bringing thousands of spectators
to enjoy a day with their family. It has everything a motor sports enthusiast
would want, the sounds and smells, the pits, the competition and the carnage.
The professional side of the sport started in 1999 with the Rockcrawlers'
Association of America formation of a point driven series. The first event
drew nearly six thousand. Immediately, Goodyear jumped on board and has
never left. Now, five years later, the two super giants in the marketing and
promotional end of the rockcrawling world, RCAA and The United Rockcrawling
and Off-Road Challenge (UROC), have become one. Immediately following, ERoCC,
the leader on the east coast, joined the team. Between these, giant steps
have been made in the sport. For 2004, the steps are being multiplied! The
UROC series of 2004 featured six Pro National Events and eight Regional
championship events around the country. At the end of it all, the events were
televised on stations like The Speed Channel, ESPN and/or others.
This is where the big dogs run. The Pro Nationals bring the best of the
best from around the country and beyond to compete for top dollars in
purse and contingent support in a six event series. Points are given
for placing in each event and accrued. Events are laid out with ten
obstacles all located in close proximity to one another. This ensures
that spectators and media will view every obstacle..
Since the merger of the 3 largest rockcrawling organizations, the
new UROC is bigger and more committed than ever to continue the
growth of this sport. XPLEX Extreme Competition Park has hopped
aboard the UROC bandwagon and built the largest man made UROC
obstacle in the world. As if that's not impressive enough, XPLEX
also holds the title of East Coast National Track.
All the major off-road magazines are covering events as well,
and July 8th and 9th brought ESPN2 to XPLEX to film the Pro
National Series for television.
It holds true to say that with UROC, you're in for the motor
sport ride of your life!
