Paintball
In 1981, when 3 people entered a woods in New Hampshire
armed with Nelspot .007 pistols (paintball markers), chances are, the thought
that what they were getting ready to do would blossom into one of the fastest
growing extreme sports in the world never crossed their minds. But that is
exactly what did happen. Fast forward 14 years, through all the technological
improvements in the markers and safety equipment, to modern day, and what you
will find is XPLEX. A one of a kind Extreme Competition Park with a one of a
kind paintball facility. XPLEX focuses on helping the phenomenon to continue
to grow while educating its fans and players on the sport they love.
With XPLEX not being your typical paintball facility, every aspect of paintball
has been brought together. With the outdoor fields consisting of 4 permanent
X-Ball (SpeedBall) fields, 9 scenario fields, and the indoor hosting 2 X-Ball
fields (capability of 6 SpeedBall). Also housed inside the facility will be a
retail shop, employing an on hand airsmith. Nighttime play and a variety of
classes will be available through Xcademy on refereeing, airsmithing and
paintball safety. All aiming to help make XPLEX a one of a kind paintball Goliath.
The SGMA (Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association) 2004 report has paintball,
once again, listed 3rd for most extreme sport in the nation. What's so great about
being 3rd? That would be 3rd out of the 103 athletic activities the report covers
and rates. It also says a lot when you take into consideration the fact that the
two sports listed ahead of paintball, inline skating and skateboarding, have both
witnessed a drop off in participation of 10.8% and 14.7% respectively. All the
while, paintball continues its upward ascent by 13.3% and a total of 9,835,000
participants for 2003. According to National Paintball Supply, which is the
largest paintball supply wholesaler, sales of markers (guns), gear and paint
topped $750 million dollars in 2003.
As with every other aspect of XPLEX, whether it be the motocross, mudbogs,
UROC sanctioned rock crawling events or the XPLEX Concert Series, every event,
in turn, supports one another. This logical progression gives fans the
opportunity to be turned onto numerous events in addition to those they
already support.
XPLEX doesn't believe that bigger is better, it just gives ammunition
to those who do. What XPLEX and all those affiliated with it do believe
though, is in making the XPLEX experience, regardless of the event, a
safe, fun and complete experience for the spectator as well as the
participants.
